Response to Team Five Questions

Team Five, thank you for all of the questions. It makes me think of what's coming...

How are you preparing for the move?
Currently, I am preparing for the move by packing up my room, working on my blog, trying mentally to take it all in, envisioning what it will be like to live in Denmark and be a Dane for a year.

What are you looking forward to?
I am excited and looking forward to it all. From seeing my family again to the chance to live in Denmark for a year while learning more about the other half of me.

What are you nervous about?
If you asked "what are you excited about" I would have the same answer. The answer would be: EVERYTHING. I usually go to Denmark in the summer only to visit my Danish family and be a "tourist". I don't know all Danish words, just enough for a short conversation. I am also nervous about getting new friends, going to a new school, and reading and writing in Danish (which there will be tests on).

What are you anticipating?
I am anticipating these things...
  • I'll be homesick
  • I'll miss my dad and American family
  • I'll miss my friends
  • I'll have a hard time at school
  • I might be teased
  • I'll ROCK in English class : )
  • I'll have an emotional time
  • It will turn out to be an amazing experience!
  • I'll be eating a LOT of pastries and ice cream
  • I'll be riding my bike everywhere
  • I'll NEED to get winter clothes
  • I'll get to know my Danish cousins really well
  •
Have you begun emailing family in Denmark?
I am sorry to say that I've not. My mom has been communicating by phone, though, because my grandmother doesn't have internet access.

Are there relatives your age that you've begun chatting with?
No.

How are you packing?
Stella and I are sorting what clothes we want to bring and which ones we don't. My mom is packing down and cleaning out the attic. Later we will all pack up the suitcases with what we want to bring.
I am definitely binging my computer because it is my link to all of you and it is my "photo album".

Does your new school have a website?
Yes. Here's the link.

Can you get a Google Earth view of your new neighborhood?

Here's a link to Google maps. Once you got there, type in Denmark or Lynge, Denmark and you'll see where I'll be living...

  2. My goodness, you'll be about the same distance to Copenhagen as the Swedish border! Amazing. I wonder how the culture of Lynge is influenced by its proximity to Sweden?

Wait, okay, you must go through Copenhagen to get to Stockholm. How long is the train ride?

There must be an easy train to Stockholm! What do you know about this?

When I was teaching in Amsterdam, I almost made a trip to Gotland Island to look for amber!

How related is the Danish language/culture to Swedish?

So much to learn and discover!
